Al Ahli’s Meshal wins player of the month award, Adam takes coaching honours

Al Ahli striker Meshal Abdulla has been announced as the QSL player of the month for March. The player will receive the award at Al Ahli’s training ground.
The Qatari international has been in fine form this month, scoring crucial goals against Umm Salal  and local rivals Al Arabi helping the Brigadiers pull away from the QSL relegation zone. His record of four goals in three QSL games has helped him pick up the coveted trophy.
Statistics from Prozone, The QSL’s statistical partner, show how Meshal led the way in the month of March. Firstly, the striker sprinted more than many of his peers – on average he clocked up 458m of sprinting per match – which is significantly higher than the QSL average of 329m for a striker.
Meshal is dangerous with the ball at his feet and can threaten any defence on his day. No wonder then that the veteran attacker drew the most fouls from his opponents in March, being on the receiving end of 2.3 tackles, higher than the average of 2.21.
Meshal scored some crucial goals in February, his hard running and eye for goal was typified with his brace in the 4-2 victory over Umm Salal. His goals effectively assured Ahli of all three points against a spirited Umm Salal outfit.
The result gave his side relief from the QSL relegation zone.
It’s unsurprising then that the Al Ahli man excelled at goals in the penalty area. In March, he averaged an impressive 1.3 goals per game from inside the box, significantly higher than the QSL average of 0.4 shots.
Importantly most of his efforts found their target, with 1.7 of his shots hitting their mark again much higher than the average tally of 0.98 for QSL strikers.
So from sprinting, plenty of shots and crucially plenty of goals Meshal has fired his side to safety, and himself to glory  as he claimed his first ever QSL player of the month award.
QSL Coach of the month-
Yousuf Adam
Al Ahli’s head coach Yousuf Adam has been awarded the coach of the month award for March. This is the first time that a QSL head coach has picked up the award.
The Brigadiers have put in impressive performances during the month of March picking up wins against Umm Salal and Al Arabi. Crucially these timely wins have helped Al Ahli pull away from the QSL relegation zone. Perhaps more impressive is that the victories came over teams in a higher league position.
In front of goal, Al Ahli scored nine times in just three QSL games. Statistics from Prozone, QSL’s statistical partner show that Ahli had an average of 7 shots on target per game.  However, the sides overall fitness running can be a measure of their success in March. The side totaled 11,332 meters this month, more than the QSL average of 10,400 metres.
Ahli are set to play bottom placed Mesaimeer in round 24 of the QSL.
