Deaths of 79 Indians registered in three months

A total of 79 Indians died in Qatar in the first three months of this year, records with the Indian embassy show.
This was revealed during the monthly community house on Thursday.
During 2015 and 2014, as many as 279 Indians had died each year in the country.
The meeting, held to address the urgent consular and labour issues/cases of Indian nationals in Qatar, was held at the embassy in the presence of ambassador Sanjiv Arora, deputy chief of mission R K Singh and other officials.
They met all the complainants, discussed their problems and assured them that the mission would actively follow up their cases with the local authorities concerned.
The meeting was informed that an embassy team visited the Central Prison and the Deportation Centre to inquire about the welfare of the Indian detainees.
The total number of Indian nationals in the Central Prison and the Deportation Centre were 141 and 190, respectively.
So far this year, the Labour and Community Welfare Section of the embassy has received a total of 1,103 complaints. The number of complaints received during 2015 was 4,132.
On the basis of requests received from Qatari authorities for travel documents for Indian nationals at the Deportation Centre, the embassy issued 16 Emergency Certificates last month. The embassy also issued 33 air tickets during March to Indians in distress for their repatriation.
The Indian Community Benevolent Forum [ICBF] initiated a number of welfare measures, including provision of air tickets, financial assistance and medical help, the meeting was told.
The ICBF gave six air tickets for destitute workers during March.
The meeting was also attended by ICBF president Arvind Patil.
