Israeli security forces gather near the scene of attacks

Arab Israeli wounds Jewish woman near Tel Aviv: police

An Arab Israeli woman stabbed and wounded a Jewish woman near Tel Aviv on Sunday before being arrested, police said.

The incident occurred in the industrial zone of Rosh Haayin, east of the coastal city.

A police spokeswoman said a security guard at an office building saw a woman armed with a knife attack another woman before overpowering the assailant with the help of two passers-by.

A 30-year-old Jewish Israeli woman was lightly wounded in the attack, according to police.

The attacker was said by police to be a 23-year-old from the Arab town of Kfar Qassem near the occupied West Bank.

Violence since October has left 200 Palestinians and 28 Israelis dead.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, according to Israeli authorities.

But Israeli forces have also been accused of using excessive force in some cases, charges which they have firmly denied.

Arab Israelis -- who represent about 18 percent of Israel's population -- are the descendants of Palestinians who remained on their land after the creation of Israel in 1948.
