The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has compelled a well-known automobile dealer to return a defective vehicle and pay the customer a refund of over QR200,000 after accounting for the depreciation of the car, which was used for a year.
In a statement, the ministry said it took the action after receiving a complaint from the vehicle’s owner regarding manufacturing defects.
MEC inspectors investigated the complaint before notifying the dealer of the need to return the faulty car and pay the customer the refund in line with Article 10 of Law No 8 of 2008 on consumer protection.
The law stipulates that consumers are entitled to choose whether to repair, exchange or return defective products for a refund.
