Qatar University College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) Masters student Ahmed Sobh recently successfully defended his thesis “Evaluation of a Cumulative Exit-from-degree Objective Structured Clinical Examination in a Gulf Context”, becoming the College’s first MSc Pharm graduate in Clinical Pharmacy and Practice.
Ahmed gave a 45-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges that included representatives from CPH, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar and University of Toronto. A 15-minute Q&A followed with the audience that comprised CPH dean Dr Ayman El-Kadi, CPH assistant professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice, Assessment and Accreditation co-ordinator and project supervisor Dr Kyle Wilby, as well as around 50 CPH undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty.
Dr El-Kadi said: “This milestone for the College of Pharmacy and Ahmed’s research, under the supervision of Dr Kyle Wilby, is instrumental in reshaping the pharmacy education to reflect the expanding role of clinical pharmacists in Qatar. CPH held the first Final Cumulative Assessment in the Middle East and we are delighted that Ahmed’s research showcases our efforts.”
Ahmed said: “I have always had a passion to teach and do research in the field of clinical pharmacy and practice. Working with my supervisor Dr Kyle, we developed and conducted a research project which I believe will have a huge impact on the future of pharmacy practice in Qatar.”
Dr Wilby said: “I applaud the College’s vision in designing graduate programmes that align with the needs of the healthcare sector and that are supportive of national aspirations towards fulfilling the National Health Strategy and the goals of QNV 2030.”
