Doha Bank staffers in clean-up campaign at Al Wakrah beach

Doha Bank joined forces with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and Al Wakrah Municipality to host a clean-up campaign at the Al Wakrah beach.
Organised under the theme, “Save the Beaches for the Future,” the campaign was led by Doha Bank volunteer staff members and the management, who joined efforts to remove litter from the beach.
The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of beaches in Qatar’s ecological sustenance and in supporting aquatic life, while inspiring community effort towards keeping public spaces free of waste and pollutants, according to a statement from Doha Bank.
Dr R Seetharaman, CEO of Doha Bank, said: “As one of the country’s leading financial institutions, Doha Bank is committed towards building a healthy society that is in harmony with nature.
“Doha Bank has been at the forefront of collaborating with the government and sharing its ideals of a clean and safe environment for the people of Qatar. The country’s shores are an important habitat for several aquatic creatures, and their maintenance reflects on the positive image of Qatar, which welcomes people from around the globe.”
The 2016 beach clean-up campaign supports efforts by the MME to monitor and beautify Qatar’s coastline as popular beaches turn into tourist hotspots. In June last year, plans of developing a souq at the Al Wakrah beach had forecast an increase in tourist visits, the statement noted.
Doha Bank thanked Omar Thabet al-Yafei, director of the public relations and media department at the MME, for the support.
The campaign is part of Doha Bank’s “Green Banking” project to pioneer initiatives that increase awareness on pressing environmental issues. Prior to the clean-up drive at Al Wakrah beach, Doha Bank had hosted its annual Al Dana Green Run in January this year, which saw the participation of thousands of residents, to raise awareness about environmental sustainability and green living.
