The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced a two-week administrative closure of a beauty centre, located in Al Waab area, over the display and sale of expired hair dyes.
The closure comes within the framework of inspection campaigns carried out by the ministry in an effort to monitor the market and commercial activity in Qatar, in a bid to offset price manipulation and expose violations pertaining to counterfeit goods and non-conformance with standard specifications.
Inspectors from the Ministry fined the beauty centre and compelled its closure for a two-week period in line with article (6) of law number (8) of 2008. The law prohibits suppliers of goods from selling, displaying, offering or advertising corrupt or fraudulent products. Products are considered corrupt if they do not conform with standards specifications, are unusable or have expired.
The administrative closure is published on the ministry's website as well as two daily newspapers at the offending centre’s own expense in line with article (3) of law no (8) on consumer protection.
The MEC stated that it is determined to protect consumer rights and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on all violations of the consumer protection law. The Ministry said it will refer violators of laws and ministerial decrees to the competent authorities, who in turn will take appropriate action against perpetrators in order to protect the rights of consumers.
