Customs foils bid to smuggle marijuana through airport

The General Customs Authority (GAC) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 6.4kg of marijuana through Hamad International Airport (HIA).

The illicit drugs were found with an Asian traveller transiting HIA on a journey from his home country to another GCC country. "The GAC officer suspected a bag of the traveller and ordered a full search of his luggage, leading to the discovery of the hidden drug," Ajab al-Qahtani, director of HIA Customs, said.

Marijuana was found in 11 packets wrapped in plastic bags and hidden among other items such as dried fish and snacks. The issue was referred to the security department concerned to take the necessary legal procedures against the traveller.
