The long wait is over as Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) released on Thursday samples of the commemorative stamp of Pia Wurtzbach’s Miss Universe 2015 coronation.
The collector’s item shows Wurtzbach’s moment of triumph in Las Vegas embossed on a stamp, with her crown glittering with a special embellishment called “tactile glittery texture.”
In a statement released to Manila Times by OIC-Postmaster General Joel Otarra, he said PHLPost is “immortalising her (Pia) with a postage stamp as the third Filipina to win the prestigious and much-coveted Miss Universe crown.”
He added that the glittering souvenir sheets would surely be a hit among Filipinos, most especially among collectors in the country.
PHLPost hopes to issue and launch the limited edition stamp this month upon securing the approval and permission from the Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. and the Miss Universe Organisation.
The target date is April 17, which happens to be the coronation night of Bb. Pilipinas 2016.
Once approved, the post office will issue 101,000 pieces of the regular stamps, which will cost P15 each, while 5,000 pieces of souvenir sheets will be sold at P40 per piece.
Wurtzbach is now among the roster of “living legends,” who are given the rare privilege of being featured in a postage stamp. Names include boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz, 1973 Miss Universe Margarita Moran, and 2013 Miss World Megan Young.
