More time to relax, unwind: Residents welcome MIA Park’s move

Many Doha residents have lauded the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park’s move to operate round the clock saying it will give visitors more time to unwind with their families, friends and colleagues.

“This will benefit many families, as well as bachelors and single women,” said Mobin, an expatriate marine engineer who normally takes his family to different parks in Doha either Friday or Saturday.

Many families and individuals like to gather or do picnics on the hillside to see a good view of the Doha skyline. Others settle at the Café Kiosk until evening to chat with their friends.

The announcement of the park being open round-the-clock was made on Twitter on April 5 saying “MIA Park lovers rejoice, as of today MIA Park will be open 24/7.”

Some families were not aware of the park’s 24/7 operation but welcomed it as a positive gesture to visitors ample to time to rest and relax.

Like Mobin, Adesh also takes his wife and daughter to MIA Park at least two hours from 5pm.

“I think that is enough to play with my child and do some walking around,” he said. “But we’re glad to know we can come here anytime now.”

MIA Park has remained one of the most favourite and conducive public parks for families and children across Qatar, according to Adesh, who like to experience the sea breeze and watch several dhows and other boats pass by.

Stanley, who also takes his family to the park, echoed the statement of other residents saying a lot of visitors can now extend their chats beyond 11pm.

“I believe people should bring more food and water if they plan to stay longer at the park because the café kiosk will be closed by 11pm,” he said.
