A number of issues concerning urban development across the region will be deliberated upon at the fifth Arab Future Cities Summit, which starts tomorrow at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha.
The two-day event is taking place under the patronage of the Ministry of Transport & Communications and Ministry of Municipality & Environment.
HE the Minister of Transport & Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti will inaugurate the summit, where ministers, ambassadors and a number of senior officials from government and private sector entities and GCC organisations are expected to be present.
Key figures representing transportation, telecommunications and urban development will also attend the event, according to a Ministry of Transport & Communications statement.
Reem al-Mansoori, assistant undersecretary for Digital Society Sector Development at the Ministry of Transport & Communications; Faleh al-Naemi, chairman and managing director of QPost; and Waleed al-Sayed, deputy CEO – Ooredoo Group and CEO – Ooredoo Qatar, are among those attending.
The event will see several speakers from outside Qatar as well and is expected to witness an announcement on the launch of new postal services in the country.
An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the summit featuring models of key projects taking place in Qatar in the fields of transportation, mobility and roads, involving Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail), Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani), Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Geographic Information Systems (GIS Qatar) and others.
Among the key topics are digital society and sustainable development in Qatar and ways of benefiting from the potential of information and communication technologies to transform Doha into a smart city.
The summit will help facilitate an international platform to discuss the ways of transfer of knowledge, know-how and reflect on technological and social innovations and transformations that are arising in cities.
It will feature discussions on the implementation of the Arab Smart Cities Development, the infrastructure, issues and challenges and the solutions to overcome these challenges.
The summit will also shed light on measures and strategies capable of achieving sustainability and the development of Qatar’s capital into a smart city, in addition to latest trends related to smart cities development.
