The new Porsche 911 was launched in Doha yesterday at Porsche Centre Doha.
The new car is everything Porsche’s fan base would expect it to be. It is faster than its predecessor. It gets an injection of fresh technology in all the right places and it looks as good as it always has done. Losing none of its sporting appeal and design.
The new vehicle, according to officials at the launch, does away quite smartly with some offending seconds as it sprints to 100 well on its way to a top speed well over 300kph.
Porsche is celebrating some new landmarks as it launches the car that is most identified with the Porsche brand and gives it its unique status amongst supercars. The 911 “has won more races than any other sports car but seamlessly balances exceptional everyday usability”. This year the brand sold more than 225,000 cars worldwide. With 225,121 vehicles delivered to customers worldwide, the company achieved a new record in 2015, exceeding the previous record of 189,849 cars in 2014 by 19%.
The 911 puts out 370HP in its Carrera form, this figure rises to 420hp in the Carrera S. Across the range, a gain of 20hp has been achieved, despite a fuel reduction of up to 1litre per 100km.
The 911 Carrera goes from zero to 100kph in 4.2 seconds – making it two tenths of a second faster than its predecessor. The 911 Carrera S with PDK and Sport Chrono Package does it in just 3.9 seconds.
Thanks to a 3.8-litre six-cylinder bi-turbo engine, the 911 Turbo now delivers 540hp, with the coupe model sprinting from zero to 100 in 3.0 seconds. Top speed in the new 911 Turbo is 320km/h, 5km/h faster than the previous model.
Meanwhile, the 911 Turbo S develops 580hp. It is the first production 911 to accelerate to 100kph in less than three seconds, reaching the milestone speed in 2.9 seconds. The model’s top speed is 330kph, 12kph higher than its predecessor.
Speaking on the arrival of the new 911 range, Salman Jassem al-Darwish, chairman and CEO, Porsche Centre Doha, commented: “With its unique success story, the Porsche 911 is a car that has achieved iconic status over the decades and we are immensely pleased to be sharing its latest evolution with our enthusiasts and customers here in Qatar. This model represents standard-setting sports car performance along with the convenience of everyday usability, all packaged in a legendary design. Thanks to the extensive range available right from the start, there is a 911 for every driver with each type boasting one overriding trait: pure Porsche performance. The innovations, which allow each version to deliver even more power but with increased efficiency, are nothing short of groundbreaking and further extend the 911’s position as a segment leader.”
The new Porsche 911 is now available for order at Porsche Centre Doha. The retail price for the standard 911 Carrera base model starts at QR350,100.
