Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), organised a workshop on insulin pump, in collaboration with QF Schools Pre-University Education.
A total of 14 school nurses, who supervise 30 students with diabetes, attended the exercise. The training focused on introducing the nurses to the basics of insulin therapy, insulin pump theory and carbohydrate
counting.
Asserting that QDA advocates for the ‘Rights of Students with Diabetes’ and works towards providing them with a safe environment at school, executive director Dr Abdullah al-Hamaq stated that diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases among
children and teenagers.
“Since children spend most of their day at school, school personnel should be fully aware of the symptoms of diabetes and its complications to provide the best care for students with diabetes. Hence QDA is working with schools and parents to provide a healthy and secure environment for children.
“By supporting school nurses with the latest information and methods to improve their skills, QDA is effectively improving students’ lives,” he added.
