SC programme reaches out to UK-based Qatari students

During a forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) International Ambassador (IA) programme will empower over 700 Qatari students to respond meaningfully to some of the perceptions surrounding the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar  preparations.
Organised by the SC’s Community Engagement division, the four IA workshops in the UK start today. These will be the first of many opportunities for local students to receive key multimedia content and information around the tournament in Qatar.
More than 3,000 Qatari students in the UK have already been receiving monthly SC newsletters since October 2015, and the IA workshops will now allow students to interact directly in workshop style sessions.
“These workshops in the UK are the next phase of the International Ambassador programme of the Community Engagement team,” said Khalid Al Jumaily, SC Community Engagement manager.
“It gives a chance for Qatari students in the UK to meet the team, hear an in-depth presentation about the World Cup and, most importantly, have us there to discuss their proposals to deliver workshops and events.”
The first stop for the IA programme will be Oxford today. A presentation will be delivered, followed by a social gathering and dinner. The function will reach out to around 100 students from a number of the local institutions including, the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University, Oxford Business College and Oxford Language Centre.
In Wales 160 students from eight educational institutions will attend the next day’s event in Cardiff. A poetry reading from Qatari poet Hamad Al Braidi will be the main attraction of the evening following the presentation of the SC’s work.
On 16 April, 150 students based in various educational institutions in Manchester and Liverpool will congregate at Anfield Stadium, the historic home of five-time European champions Liverpool FC. A tour of the stadium will be the main attraction.
The tour will conclude with a function on 18 April at Huddersfield University. The event will target 300 students based in the universities of Huddersfield and Coventry.
