Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary of State Katarzyna Kacperczyk has said there are “synergistic opportunities” between Qatar and Poland.
The official made the statement during Doha Bank’s recently held knowledge-sharing session on “Business Opportunities in Poland” held at the Doha Bank headquarters.
“The complementarity of the economies of Poland and Qatar determines huge potential for achieving synergies in many sectors, not only in energy, but also in investment, real estate, transportation, and tourism, whose role in promoting mutual understanding of the two countries is significant,” said Kacperczyk, who was joined by a business delegation from Poland.
She said the delegation represents five sectors of the Polish economy: construction, food, Information Technology, furniture production, and medical and pharmaceutical.
Kacperczyk, who was accompanied by Polish ambassador Krzysztof Suprowicz, presented an in-depth speech on the present condition of the Polish economy, its business environment, and investment opportunities.
The official also underlined Polish entrepreneurs’ innovation capabilities “as the driving force of their success and the achievements of the Polish economy.” Kacperczyk also said she would be visiting Qatar “on a yearly basis” to focus on promoting different sectors.
During the session, Doha Bank CEO Dr R Seetharaman delivered insights on the Polish economy and Qatar-Poland relationships.
Citing a recent International Monetary Fund forecast, Seetharaman said Poland is expected to grow by 3.6% in 2016.
“Poland is one of the fastest growing economies in the European Union. The first ever delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo was done in December 2015 to the Polish LNG receiving terminal in ?winouj?cie by Qatargas,” Seetharaman said.
He said Poland “represents a new market” for Qatargas’ premium LNG.
“This further demonstrates its commitment to provide Europe with a clean energy source. In 2014, Poland recorded 40% growth in bilateral trade turnover to €52.2mn with Qatar.
“Qatar is witnessing extensive development and is implementing hundreds of large-scale projects in preparation to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. This encourages Polish businessmen and companies to work in the Qatari market,” Seetharaman said.
On GCC economies, Seetharaman said: “The fall in oil prices had impacted the growth on GCC economies and the recent IMF forecast reflects the same. According to recent IMF forecast, Qatar expected to grow by 3.4% this year. Qatar has significant strength in defending its fixed exchange parity with the dollar due to availability of reserves to cover the monetary base and current account payments over the next four years.”
