The first longboard competition in the country has attracted players and enthusiasts from various groups and communities in Doha, Qatar Extreme Sports (QES) founder Farhan al-Sayed has said.
“QES is creating history by hosting the first longboard championship in Qatar,” he stressed, as he praised participants and volunteers for their support to the event, which was held recently on the Doha Corniche Park, near the Sheraton Doha.
Olan Santos beat Bruce and Alon to win the freestyle category, while Jaymee beat Jude by one percentage point to win the ladies freestyle.
Alon was victorious in the Side Jam event beating Ryan and Gustav in a close contest. Bruce was the Slalom Race champion, Pedro and Prince came in second and third position. Judges included al-Sayed, Lambert and Job.
QES also spearheads a number of sports competitions such as skateboarding, roller blades and BMX biking across Doha to promote an active and healthy lifestyle among residents.
According to al-Sayed, extreme sports and cycling are becoming more popular in Qatar with the staging of regular competitions and races across the country.
Players and enthusiasts have been organising a number of events and practice sessions at different venues to entice young residents to join them.
Al-Sayed believes Qatar’s hosting of the World Cycling Championship this year will further help promote the sport and encourage the youth to engage in various physical activities.
He expressed confidence that more people will participate in the next competitions this year.
