Pakistani singer Quasain Ali is all set to release his second single. Composed in Doha, the teaser of the song, accompanied by a music video, has already created a buzz among music lovers in the city who are all familiar with Ali’s voice.
To be released on May 6, the music for the song has been composed by another Pakistani singer Omar Malik who has also penned the lyrics for Rab Janay (God Knows), together with Ali. The Doha audience is well-acquainted with Ali’s voice who has performed multiple gigs at different events and locations with his band called Raakh (Ashes of Life) featuring Ali as lead vocalist, Yousuf Yahya, bassist; Farhad Qadeer, lead guitarist and Faisal Rauf as beat boxer.
Before Rab Janay, he has also featured in a solo by Mujataba Malik, a fellow singer from Pakistan, besides doing his own solo called Madhoshiyan, which gained good ratings on the charts. Ali, who hails from Karachi, says he started singing at the age of 10 and is completely a self-taught singer who has never professionally trained his voice. “I have never trained as a singer. It is all natural and I have trained myself by listening to different kinds of music and then practicing it. I always had a feeling that I have a good voice and I used to think that I can do it,” Ali tells Community in a recent interview.
“The first time I went on to stage was during my university days when my seniors ragged me and I was asked to sing. I remember I sang this song Sajni from Jal band and people appreciated it,” he recalls.
When he started singing he never thought of making a career out of it. However, opportunities kept coming and now Ali thinks he can make it a profession. After the success of his first solo, he started getting congratulatory messages from people in the industry and he knew his voice was being recognised and appreciated. One such person was Omar Malik who approached him for a collaboration that culminated in his latest song Rab Janay.
“I started singing during my college days. My first song was a song called Billo, it was a ‘featured in’ song with Pakistani singer Mujtaba Malik. Then I did my first original single Madhoshian and it got a very good response from Pakistan and UK, says Ali.
“Omar Malik, a music producer, approached me and offered me to work with him. So together we worked on this song called Rab Janay (God Knows). Malik is the producer and composer of the song and he has written the lyrics for the song where I have contributed as well,” he reveals.
The song would be released from a label in the UK called Jazba. It will be available on different online stores and the video will be released on social media; YouTube and Facebook channels. Ali says they are also trying to get the video up on Pakistani music channels.
Ali says he has done a lot of concerts in Doha and in Pakistan particularly during his college days, so he has no fear of facing the audience. In fact, it gets the best out of him. Currently, he says, he has three more songs in the pipeline.
The songs have already been recorded and he is just waiting for the videos to be composed and he would release a complete album, his first, soon.
His biggest inspiration in music, he says, was the Pakistani band called Junoon and their lead vocalist Ali Azmat. “When I was a child I used to listen, on the loop, their song Junoon se aur Ishq se from the movie Jinnah. And that is how I started singing. Then I also liked Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam and Farhan Saeed,” says Ali.
He already has a band in Doha. He has done solo songs and now “would love to do playback singing for movies, whereever I get opportunities from.” Pakistan, he says, is his first choice country and he would also want to explore opportunities in Bollywood, the Indian film industry.
