Major infrastructure projects leading to the hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 are among the “key motivations” for South Korea to participate in Qatar’s construction sector, ambassador Park Heung Kyeog has said.
Kyeog stressed that South Korean participants of the upcoming “13th International Construction Technology and Building Materials Exhibition” (Project Qatar) “are willing to meet the various demands” arising from Qatar’s infrastructure development projects, citing South Korea’s readiness to showcase its “quality technologies.”
He said eight South Korean companies “with the best competitiveness” are joining this year’s Project Qatar to introduce the country’s “advanced technologies.”
“I am also sure that Korean products meet the Qatar’s demand of quality, and contribute to the Qatari plan of economic diversification. Currently, Qatar has plenty of project opportunities, particularly in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is the key motivation for Korean participants.
“I hope the Project Qatar 2016 will be a new gateway for Korean products to enter the Qatari market and support the magnificent projects in the State of Qatar,” Kyeog said yesterday during a press conference announcing the launch of the event at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) from May 9 to 12.
Similarly, Dinesh Udenia, first secretary (Press & Education) and the mission’s commercial representative at the embassy of India said Project Qatar has established itself as “one of the most prominent events in its category.” In the last three years, Udenia said an average of more than 50 Indian companies has participated in the exhibition, which provided “an opportunity to interact and explore trading and investment opportunities, not only with the Qatari companies but also with other international exhibitors.”
“The state of Qatar is making more than $200bn in investments in the run up to FIFA World Cup 2022. Project Qatar provides a valuable platform for Indian companies to make use of immense business opportunities in the construction sector and its associated industries,” he said.
IFP Qatar general manager George Ayache said Project Qatar 2016 will feature 37 countries representing 900 companies, including 15 national pavilions spread over five halls and an outside area, covering 32,000sqm of exhibition space, and is expected to attract more than 35,000 professional visitors.
“As in previous years, attendees of Project Qatar 2016 come from a wide range of countries, including, but not limited to, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Kuwait, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, the UAE, the UK, and the US,” he said.
Ayache said IFP Qatar and Qatar Chamber will stage for the second time the “Project Qatar Workshop Series,” which includes 11 workshops aimed at promoting the education and commercial aspects of the construction industry.
“Following the success of the Project Qatar Business Intelligence Series in 2014 and 2015, the series comes back again in force this year with six unique B2B conferences including 2 conferences same time as the show,” Ayache said.
He added that this year, tours will include the New Port Project, Lusail City, and The Mall of Qatar. The event also features “a new and improved” B2B matchmaking platform.
