The Cabinet has given its approval to a draft decision of HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce on the formation of a committee that will look into grievances pertaining to patents.
The committee will address complaints on decisions by the Patent Office concerning the registration of patents and compulsory licences to “exploit” inventions, as provided for in Law No 30 of 2006 on patents, the Qatar News Agency reported.
The committee will be headed by the director of registration at the patents unit, Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC). Its members will include representatives from the ministry, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and Qatar Chamber.
The committee will also determine procedures to be followed, according to the report.
The law identifies a patent as the certificate granted by the Patent Office at the MEC to the patent owner in order to provide legal protection for his/her invention.
After the regular Cabinet weekly meeting chaired by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani at Emiri Diwan yesterday, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud said the Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Standing Committee of the Convention on the Law of the Sea on setting baselines for measuring the outer limits of maritime areas of the state.
The Cabinet also welcomed the outcome of the 13th session of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation conference, “Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace”, which was held in Istanbul, Turkey, with the participation of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
“The Cabinet underlined that the positive outcome of the summit, included in its final statement, contributes effectively to the march of joint Islamic action,” the report said.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet took the necessary measures to ratify an agreement between the governments of Qatar and Turkey on the exemption of visas on ordinary passports.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal on the exchange of diplomatic notes with the Japanese side to exempt Qatari diplomatic and special passports and Japanese diplomatic and official passports for visas of both countries.
Further, the Cabinet approved a draft air services agreement between the governments of Qatar and Ivory Coast.
