Qatar yesterday welcomed the UN-brokered peace talks held between the legitimate Yemeni government and the Houthis in Kuwait.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that peace talks between the Yemeni parties “represents a positive step towards reaching an agreement that ends the crisis and restores security and stability to the Republic of Yemen”.
The ministry urged all Yemeni parties “to effectively take part in the talks in order to kick-start a political process that fulfil the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people”.
The statement hailed Kuwait “for creating the right atmosphere for holding the peace talks” and praised the efforts exerted by UN special envoy for Yemen Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
The negotiations in Kuwait opened late Thursday.
President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s delegation is demanding the rebels lift sieges of cities, especially Taez, and release prisoners as part of confidence-building measures.
The government delegation has submitted a complaint listing 260 alleged ceasefire violations by the rebels on Friday alone, according to sources
