The Tarsheed programme of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has helped the country make effective savings to the tune of more than QR800mn from April 2012 to November 2015.
Tarsheed succeeded in reducing the per-capita electricity and water consumption by 14% and 17%, respectively until November 2015.
The figures were announced yesterday at the fourth anniversary of the programme held under the slogan “Tomorrow starts today”. The celebrations were held in the presence of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada and Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari.
Tarsheed, launched in 2012,  is held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Addressing a gathering, al-Kuwari said that through its manifold strategies and programmes, Tarsheed had been aiming at creating more awareness on conserving water and power. He said the programme motivated the whole society to work together and was contributing to the envisaged goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The prime target of Tarsheed is to reduce the per-capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% and 20% respectively until 2017 when the campaign completes five years.
At the meeting, Kahramaa honoured several institutions, ministries and individuals who have contributed significantly to the success of the Tarsheed drive. The authorities also felicitated those who won  competitions organised by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department of Kahramaa.
