Amongst the main guests were Ali Talal Mar’e, executive director, ALF Foundation, and Mead Jobran al-Qahtani, executive director, Qatar Voluntary Centre.
The four-day competition, hosted by Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF), was originated to challenge young people to use their skills in creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork. 24 out of 315 Qatar-based teams from 100 local schools were declared winners of the tournament. The 24 winning teams have also earned the right to participate in the DI Global Finals that will take place on May 25-29 in Knoxville,
Tennessee, the US.
“Teamwork makes the dream work and the success of the Destination Imagination Qatar 2016 Tournament is one such example. It would not have been possible without the tireless efforts and teamwork of the volunteers. Their efforts are truly appreciated,” said Mar’e.
Volunteers were presented certificates of appreciation in several categories including Gates Supervision Team, Exhibition Assisting Team, Information Desk Team, Preparations Team, Logistics Team, Registrations Team, and VIP
Management Team.
Al-Qahtani said, “We believe strongly in volunteerism and make every attempt to reach out to organisations in Qatar who need our assistance in making events a success. The spirit of volunteerism is important in encouraging participation in communities at all levels.”
The ALF Foundation’s mandate is to support all initiatives and organisations that have a positive impact on the community in Qatar. It introduced the DI programme in Qatar to address a growing need for students to exhibit curiosity and self-direction in their learning.
