Oryx GTL fetes school bus project contributors

Oryx GTL has hosted a lunch banquet to appreciate the contributions of participants in a special project that involved providing high-specification fuel for school buses.
The project is part of Oryx GTL’s efforts to implement its strategy of boosting awareness about the benefits of clean and eco-friendly fuel, which meets strict international standards in terms of emissions, according to a statement.
The initiative was launched in close co-operation with the Supreme Education Council, Mowasalat, Qatar Fuel (Woqod), Qatar University (QU) and Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq).
Mowasalat provided 20 buses for schools, 10 of which ran on conventional diesel and the other 10 on Oryx GTL diesel. QU and Tamuq were assigned to conduct an analysis comparing the performance of buses fuelled with the two types of fuel.
Woqod handled the fuel transportation from the Oryx GTL factory located in Ras Laffan industrial City to the station where the school buses were filled up. It also managed the process of providing the buses with the fuel.
Oryx GTL supplied GTL synthetic diesel for the project and conducted several experiments to compare the operations of the buses, their environmental impact and engine wear-and-tear through an evaluation of the engine oil by local universities without interruption to the services.
GTL synthetic diesel had proven suitable for use as a replacement for conventionally produced diesel with the added benefits of reduced toxic emissions and engine noise and cleaner air, the statement noted. “The aim is not only to demonstrate the optimum performance of GTL synthetic diesel but also to highlight its environment-friendly characteristics.”
