Qatar has requested an “emergency” meeting of Arab League envoys to discuss deadly Syrian regime air raids on the war-ravaged city of Aleppo.
Qatar’s permanent envoy at the Cairo-based pan-Arab body has requested holding “a meeting to discuss the dangerous escalation in the city of Aleppo and the Syrian regime forces’ massacres against civilians” there, said the official Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Meanwhile, HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani has held separate telephone conversations with his counterparts of Turkey, France and the UK to discuss with them the humanitarian conditions in Aleppo in light of the  Syrian regime’s brutal shelling of civilian institutions and people there.
The Foreign Minister said the situation in Aleppo contradicted all international charters and principles, stressing the need for the international community to assume its responsibility to stop the massacre and protect the Syrian people.  
Yesterday, terrified residents fled a new wave of air strikes on Aleppo, as key regime backer Russia rejected calls to rein in its ally.
In Aleppo’s rebel-held east, dozens of civilians left the battered Bustan al-Qasr district early yesterday, an AFP correspondent said.
“The situation has become unbearable,” Abu Mohamed said as he prepared to flee with his wife and five children. “Everything is paralysed.”
Russia said that it would not ask Damascus to halt air raids on Aleppo.
