Leading contracting firm QDVC has announced the launch of a new, redesigned version of its website, www.qdvc.com.
Key features of the site include a more engaging user experience with enhanced search and navigation. The home page welcomes visitors with a clean, uncluttered layout and features content focused on safety and worker welfare, the two priorities of the company.
“One of the main goals in mind when mapping out this new site was finding a way to introduce ourselves as a contracting company, openly and genuinely,” said QDVC CEO Philippe Tavernier.
“The redesigned website has a new look and improved functionality that will ensure an easier and more engaging experience for users.
“The site’s refreshed and simplified look was developed focusing on a responsive design to allow flawless viewing quality, regardless of whether it is accessed from a smart phone, tablet or desktop.”
Available in Arabic and English, the website highlights sustainable development initiatives, Qatarisation commitments, HR policy and safety standards as well as QDVC’s projects.
“Our website will be updated on a regular basis with articles, newsletters, company announcements and client successes in the Latest News section,” the official added.

Foreign Minister reviews situation in Aleppo
HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met the Co-ordinator-General of the Supreme Commission for Syrian Negotiations, Riad Hijab, in Doha yesterday. Talks during the meeting dealt with the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the city of Aleppo resulting from the brutal shelling against civilians by the regime forces, the international efforts being exerted to stop the violations against the Syrian people.
Separately, the Foreign Minister also held phone conversations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, US Secretary of State John Kerry, and German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Talks dealt with the tragic humanitarian situation in the city of Aleppo and the Syrian regime’s brutal shelling and massacre of civilians.

Defence Minister meets US Senator Marco Rubio
HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah met US Senator Marco Rubio, a member of Senate’s Intelligence Committee, and his accompanying delegation.  
They discussed relations between Qatar and the US and means of developing them.  
US ambassador to Qatar Dana Shell Smith attended the meeting.

Filipina road crash victim discharged
Filipina nurse Celeste Mamon Centino, 28, who was injured in a road traffic accident on April 21 near Dar Al Salam Mall in Abu Hamour, has been discharged from the hospital.
Cheryl Mae Ayugat Wawey, 30, who was her colleague at Premium Naseem Al Rabeeh Medical Centre, near Haloul Roundabout, had died in the accident, after suffering severe head injuries.
The body of Wawey was repatriated to her native land in northern Philippines on April 26, the Assistance To Nationals (ATN) of the Philippine embassy in Doha told Gulf Times.

Q-Post cuts Bangladesh money transfer tariff
Qatar Post (Q-Post) has announced a reduced rate for international money transfer from Qatar to Bangladesh to coincide with International Workers day.  
The new rate of QR9 per transaction is described as the best money transfer rate from Qatar to Bangladesh.
Q-Post chairman and managing director Faleh al-Naemi said: “We are doing our best to serve the country’s Bangladeshi community. We have reduced the transaction rate from QR13 to QR9. The service is offered to and from 2,500 post offices in Bangladesh.”
He also said some of the Q-Post branches are now open on the first and last Friday of every month between 4pm and 8pm. The branches  are LuLu Hypermarket, Mansoura (Al Meera), Souq Al Ali, Industrial Area, Mesaieed  and Al Khor, said Naemi. More information is available by e-mailing marketing@qatarposts.com

Central Qatar to feel temperatures above 40°C
The maximum temperature is likely to exceed 40° Celsius in the central parts of the country tomorrow as a rise in the mercury level is expected over the next couple of days, the Qatar Met department said yesterday.
Today, it will be hot during the day with slight dust in some places at times, according to the weather report.
The minimum and maximum temperatures expected in the country today are 24°C and 39°C, respectively, with the forecast for Doha being 27°C and 39°C.
Offshore areas, meanwhile, will see slightly dusty conditions today.

Patient records to go online at HGH from May 6
Patient records at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) will move to a new state-of-the-art electronic system – the Clinical Information System (CIS) from May 6.
The CIS is part of a planned roll-out across Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Healthcare Corporation (PHCC). Once the CIS implementation is complete, all patient records will be stored and accessed electronically across the two organisations.
Dr Yousef al-Maslamani, medical director, HGH, said this new system has real benefits for patients. “It means clinicians can spend more time with each patient and less time on paperwork and it will also reduce errors in transcription,” Dr Maslamani said. “The CIS will help clinicians and healthcare providers to access a patient’s healthcare history, prescription information, clinical notes and other important information electronically.”
This roll-out follows the successful CIS implementation in seven HMC hospitals, Paediatric Emergency Centres, Dialysis Centres, Bone and Joint Centre and a number of PHCC health centres across the country.
The CIS is a comprehensive system-wide implementation that has been designed in collaboration with clinicians. As this is such a large project, it is expected that there will be a period of transition; staff will need to gather more information from patients to register them in the new system and this may mean that first appointments take a little longer than usual.

Tamuq to award degrees on Thursday
Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) will award 109 undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering in the branch campus’ largest-ever commencement ceremony on Thursday.
As many as 43 are Qatari graduates. In addition, Tamuq will graduate its largest batch of master’s candidates, with 20 degrees expected to be awarded to those who completed the Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree programmes in chemical engineering.
HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada is the invited speaker for the ceremony, which will be presided over by interim dean Dr Ann Kenimer. Texas A&M president Michael K Young will also address the students.
Former dean and CEO Dr Mark H Weichold, himself a Class of 1978 graduate of Texas A&M University, will be on hand to inaugurate the graduates into the Texas A&M Association of Former Students, an organisation that comprises more than 400,000 graduates of the university and is known worldwide as the Aggie Network.

Man gets six-month jail for fraud
A Doha Court of Misdemeanour has sentenced a man to six months in jail for fraud.  
According to Arabic daily Arrayah, the defendant had told a man that he could buy the latter a work visa for Qatar in exchange for QR11,000. Accordingly, the “victim” paid him the money thinking that the defendant would give him the visa. However, during the investigation, the defendant denied any wrongdoing or having any links to the offence. The court convicted him based on the testimony of witnesses and the police investigation.
