Qatar will continue to enhance workers’ rights, says Minister

Qatar, under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, will continue to enhance the rights of workers, HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi said yesterday.  
Addressing a gathering during the Ministry’s event on the occasion of  World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Minister stressed the foreign workers’ pivotal role in the country’s development. He noted that the State of Qatar has already made noticeable progress in terms of protecting the rights of foreign workers in the country.
The Minister added that Qatar is always working on improving legislation, and taking steps to improve the work environment and maintain the stability and dignity of all working people.  
He praised companies and institutions that are committed to maintaining the rights of its workers in accordance with the laws of the country.  
Highlighting some of the praise Qatar received for its efforts in improving the conditions of workers, the Minister referred to the new legislation brought by Qatar to guarantee the protection of workers’ wages. The total number of workers who benefited from the law was 1.3mn, the Minister said.  
He also mentioned other initiatives such as the legislation regarding the standards of housing for workers and the criterion pertaining to health and recreation.
