Qatar University (QU) will hold its 2016 Annual Research Forum (Quarf ‘16) tomorrow under the patronage of Minister of Development Planning and Statistics HE Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem al-Nabit.
Themed “Academia and Industry Collaboration: Pathway to Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” this year’s event is an opportunity to showcase new research projects, demonstrate new tools, and report on the implementation of new programmes and collaborative activities.
The Forum will bring together a large number of participants from local institutions, including ExxonMobil Qatar, Qatar Aluminum, Qatar Petrochemical Company, Qatar Shell, QDVC and RasGas, among others.
“This annual event provides QU the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to offering world-class education and research while also showing full commitment to realising Qatar’s ambitions for a knowledge-based economy and building sustainable human capital and capability,” QU president Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham said.
Quarf ’16 will also draw students across QU to meet and discuss with researchers and experts, and share their knowledge and ideas on various research
topics.
Part of the programme will include three sessions presented by QU chief strategy and development officer Dr Darwish al-Emadi, AVP for Research and Strategic Initiatives Dr Bhanu Chowdhary, and College of Arts and Sciences associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies Dr Mohamed Ahmedna.
Some of the topics that will be discussed include ‘Establishing a vibrant partnership for fostering research driven-learning, discovery and entrepreneurship’, ‘Nurturing and cultivating collaboration for innovation and capacity building’; and ‘Hallmarks of QU-Industry Collaboration - current and future.’
The event will also include an exhibition featuring seven booths that will provide visitors with information on their latest research outcomes and their ongoing projects. These include QU Biomedical Research Centre, Centre for Advanced Materials, Centre for Sustainable Development, College of Engineering, Environmental Science Centre, KINDI Lab for Computing Research and Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre.
QU said the winners in the categories of Best Poster Award, Research Excellence Award, and Graduate Studies Award will be awarded at Quarf ’16.
“Our aim is to be a noted research and learning university and in this context, we have been recording breakthroughs in our research endeavours every year with the active collaboration and support of our industry partners,” QU VP for Research and Graduate Studies professor Mariam al-Maadeed said. “The success stories will be showcased at the forum.”
