Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) will hold the ninth convocation ceremony of its Education City at the Qatar National Convention Centre today.
The ceremony is held under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson, QF, and in the presence of HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, chief executive officer and vice chairperson of QF. A number of senior officials and a select group of special guests are expected to attend the ceremony.
Giving the details of the ceremony yesterday, Khalifa al-Kubaisi, head of Press Office at Qatar Foundation said that a total of 649 students will graduate this year.
“A total of 44% of the graduates are Qataris- from Hamad Bin Khalifa University and QF’s eight partner universities.
The graduates have received bachelor and master’s degrees in various specialisations that have been hand-picked to further the country’s advancement.”
“Education City students comprise 43 Arab and international nationalities. Female students make up about 60% of the total students and graduates of Education City. Approximately 3,000 students have graduated from the Education City since it opened,” he added. Mohamed Abdulaziz al-Naimi, chief operations officer, QF, stated that the occasion marks a new chapter in the history of Qatar Foundation and celebrates a new batch of promising and talented graduates who are ready to make their mark in the future.
“Not only will these students advance the prosperity and progress of Qatar, but they will also contribute to global development, helping to tackle internationally pressing issues by finding and applying innovative solutions to worldwide challenges.”
Mayan Zebeib, chief communications officer, QF, said: “As our graduates embark on the next stage of their journey, our doors will always be open and we will continue to support them in their pursuit and acquisition of knowledge. Convocation marks a new milestone in their lives.”
The partner universities at the Education City are Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, HEC Paris in Qatar, University College London in Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
The 2016 Convocation ceremony will be shown live on Qatar TV and Al Rayyan TV from 7pm. In addition, QF Radio also will broadcast the ceremony.
