Indian embassy to be shifted to West Bay area

The Indian embassy is expected to be shifted from its present location in the Old Hilal area to the Onaiza area (Zone 63) soon, sources told Gulf Times.

Though the exact date of relocation is not known, it is understood that the mission will be shifted to the new premise near the West Bay Petrol Station sometime in the middle of this month.

On April 21, the embassy had put up a tender notice on its website, inviting bids for shifting the mission's furniture, computers and other things to Villa No.86 and 90, on Eithra Street in Onaiza area. The last date to submit sealed tenders was May 1.

Though efforts were made to contact the embassy officials for details, no one was available for comments.

Members of the Indian expatriate community that is estimated to exceed 600,000, have often aired their preference for the embassy to be located somewhere in the city, facilitating easy access to all.

Some of the community leaders said it was desirable that the embassy maintained a facility within the city to cater to the needs of the large Indian workforce and consular services.
