HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met yesterday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his current visit to Russia.
They discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the latest regional and international issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and the situation in Syria. They discussed ways to revive the political process adopted by International Syria Support Group.
The Foreign Minister underscored Russia’s role in the region, particularly the developments related to the Syrian crisis, adding that Russia is a key partner in the International Support Syria Group as it works to push towards resolving the crisis through a political process.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts to put an end to the crimes committed by the regime against civilians which amounts to war crimes, and said the perpetrators must be held accountable.
The Minister hoped the recent efforts by Russia would contribute positively to the cessation of hostilities to re-create conditions for a political solution, adding that the Syrian people have been suffering for years and that the dialogue with Russia was part of efforts to put an end to the crisis.
