First online supermarket is launched

Doha Sooq, the award-winning e-Commerce portal hosted by Doha Bank, has partnered with leading supermarket chain Grand Mart to launch the first online supermarket in Qatar.
The move will see Grand Mart offer groceries and a wide variety of consumer products via Doha Sooq, providing customers across the country the opportunity to make everyday purchases from the convenience of their home and have them delivered right at their doorstep.
The launch of the online supermarket was announced at a ceremony at Doha Bank’s head office.
Members of Doha Sooq’s executive team were present at the ceremony, where details of the Doha Sooq-Grand Mart Online Supermarket were shared with the media.
“As Qatar’s most popular e-Commerce site, Doha Sooq is renowned for offering the best deals in town and, in joining hands with Grand Mart to launch the country’s first online supermarket, we add a new chapter to our success story,” said Doha Bank Group chief executive Dr R Seetharaman.
“The Doha Sooq-Grand Mart Online Supermarket will offer a wide selection of products under a number of different categories, from fresh food, home care and stationery to health and beauty, fashion and electronics, making everyday shopping a seamless and convenient experience for customers,” he added.
Grand Mart Group of Companies chief executive Shaukath Ali Chakarath said: “With the launch of this new online supermarket, residents in Qatar will be able to buy just about everything they need at one place – at great prices and without leaving their home. 
“The online shopping trend is fast catching on in Qatar and having our products available on Doha Sooq – the runaway leader in Qatar’s e-commerce space – will allow us to reach a larger audience and thereby increase our revenue.”
Grand Mart Group IT manager Mohamed Intiqab Rawoof said: “People always shop. It doesn’t stop. We are here to make their experience better and the online supermarket is designed and implemented to provide a seamless shopping experience. People are changing their buying habits. From retail stores to online shopping carts, it’s only a matter of time before the online shopping store becomes a popular option among consumers in Qatar.”
Customers shopping at the Doha Sooq-Grand Mart Online Supermarket receive free shipping on orders of QR50 or more.
