A new building featuring additional operation theatres at the Hamad General Hospital has been completed, Ashghal said on Sunday.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has also completed the mandatory inspections and operation procedures of the technical and electromechanical systems at the building, which will soon be handed over to the Ministry of Public Health.
The project is one of Qatar’s most important ones which will reflect positively on the efficiency of the healthcare sector.
Works included equipping the new operation theatres. The building has 20 operating rooms, 17 of which are general and the other three for carrying out surgery with advanced diagnostic devices.

This is in addition to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for accidents, recovery unit (post-anaesthesia care), ICUs for surgery, surgery preparation units and associated services, as well as a multi-storeyed parking tower to accommodate around 800 vehicles.
The QR900mn project is part of the plans implemented by Ashghal in addition to other health facilities projects and Primary Health Care Centres across the country.
The surgery building also includes a services building. In addition, two helicopter landing pads connect the surgery building to transfer emergency cases.
The building is equipped with highly advanced systems and gadgets that are being used for the first time.
The project features cutting-edge medical devices, with the provision of electrical and mechanical vents and other equipment required by those devices.
To achieve sustainability and reduce consumption of energy and natural resources, Ashghal used local and international sustainability assessment systems, such as the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS). Such a step is expected to promote the Green Building concept.
