Newly promoted Meisameer came into the 2015/2016 full of optimism making their first appearance in the QSL. The flames overhauled their squad in the summer, bringing in experienced head coach Rodion Gacanin. The Croatian tactician has had considerable experienced and was charged in helping beat Meisameer beat the drop.
Four professional players joined the side, all of whom was their first experience of Qatari football. Brazilian defender Rafael Amorim, Helio Pinto from Portugal and Everlito Silva all joined with European experience whilst veteran midfielder Mohammed Nouri was recruited from Iran.
 The opening game promised to be exciting with the newly promoted side facing Al Sadd, the most successful side in Qatari football. Unfortunately the 4-0 humbling by Sadd was the start of a long hard season for the flames. Five defeats followed to the likes of Al Gharafa and Al Sailiya often by a solitary goal as Meisameer struggled to adapt to the pace of the QSL.
In round six Meisameer grabbed their first ever win in the QSL, a 2-1 over struggling Al Kharitiyat. The flames came from a goal down to win the tie, thanks to a brace from Everlito Silva. Unfortunately it proved to be their only win of the domestic season.
Four straight defeats in the league were punctuated with a 2-2 draw with Al Ahli in December, the Flames again having Everlito Silva to thank. His brace helped his side register their first ever draw in the QSL.
Mesimeer failed to kick on and suffered a run of nine straight defeats in the QSL, effectively sealing their relegation. Humbling defeats to Al Sadd (5-1) and Al Arabi (4-1) underlined the clubs fragility in defense. Whilst in the January transfer window both Rafael Amorim & Helio Pinto made way for Wajdi Bouazzi & Adama Traoré.
Meisameer’s most memorable result of their maiden season came in March when they drew 1-1 with highflying El Jaish. Wajdi Bouazzi registered a second half penalty and the Flames held on our only their second draw of the season. Despite being relegated Mesiameer still put in good performances and registered their second draw of the season in their penultimate game. A 0-0 draw with Al Arabi showed that Rodion Ga?anin’s side still had plenty of fight.
Meisameer’s season in the QSL was poor, but the small side from South Doha can draw plenty of lessons from their maiden season the QSL. They will now return to the Qatar Gas league and focus on returning back to the QSL at the first time of asking.

QFA Awards nominees confirmed
The board of trustees for the QFA awards headed by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, head of the Qatar Football Association have confirmed nominees for a number of awards up for grabs on April 21st.
Firstly a host of voting forms have been passed around to key stakeholders in football to vote across the following categories: Best U23 Player, Coach of the year & Player of the Year. The following individuals have been asked to make their choice: local media, trainers, QSL teams, first team coaches, QFA representatives, QSL representatives, chairman and members of the Board of Trustees for the QFA Awards. Based on the returned nomination forms, the following players have been shortlisted for the awards:
Best U23 Player: Ahmed Moein (El Jaish), Abdulkarim Hassan (Al Sadd), Ali Asad (Al Sadd)
Coach of the year: Jorge Fossati (Al Rayyan), Yusef Adam (Al Ahli), Sabri Lamouchi (El Jaish)
Player of the year: Rodrigo Tabata (Al Rayyan), Abderrazak Hamdallah (El Jaish), Meshal Abdulla (Al Ahli)
The trustees also confirmed again that the Mansor Muftah award, which is given to the top scorer in the QSL season will be shared between Rayyan’s Tabata and Jaish’s Abderrazak Hamdallah. Both strikers grabbed 21 goals this term.
The remaining awards will be distributed on the evening of Saturday the 21st of May at the QNCC.
