Public parks must have more sport equipment: CMC

More sport equipment should be installed at public parks and gardens to encourage people to adopt an active lifestyle, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has recommended.
At its bi-weekly session on Tuesday, the CMC urged the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to create more green areas across the country and provide them with various sport equipment in addition to equipping the existing public parks and gardens for the purpose.
The MME should co-ordinate with the Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCS) to appoint sport coaches and health instructors at these public parks and gardens to raise the awareness of visitors about the importance of sport in maintaining good health, the council said.
Women should have special places at these public areas, especially at the parks, so that they have privacy while using the sport equipment. The council also recommended that MME should co-ordinate with the Ministry of Public Health (MPH) to make sure that the sport equipment for public use is sanitised regularly to avoid any chance of spreading infectious diseases.
The council also issued recommendations regarding the shortage of veterinary medicines and vaccines. It asked the MME to ensure timely supply of such vital items.
It should also increase the number of veterinary health centres at farm complexes, and study the possibility of making regular visits by veterinarians to such farms to ensure the health of the livestock, the council said. The MME should intensify its awareness efforts to instruct the livestock owners about the importance of regular veterinary care, it added.
The CMC reviewed the responses of HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment regarding providing the Abu Fontas area with more services streets, which the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is set to implement this year.
The council hosted a delegation from the Primary Health Care Corporation's Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. They introduced the programme to the CMC members and sought their help in spreading awareness about it in their constituencies.
CMC chairman Mohamed Hamoud al-Shafi thanked the delegation for their efforts and expressed the council's readiness to offer assistance.
