Qatar Petroleum (QP) marked a significant milestone on May 9 with the loading of the 10,000th liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Ras Laffan Port.
The cargo was loaded on board the Q-Max LNG carrier ‘Mozah,’ which is bound for the South Hook LNG Terminal in the UK. 
The vessel, chartered by Qatargas from Nakilat, is among the new generation Q-Max carriers, the largest type of LNG vessels in the world, which is able to load a full cargo of 260,000 cu m of LNG. 
QP president and CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi said, “The achievement of 10,000 LNG cargoes from Ras Laffan Port is a testament to all the hard work and dedication by Qatar Petroleum as well as Qatargas and RasGas, under the wise leadership of HH the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.”
Al-Kaabi added: “This milestone further demonstrates QP’s commitment, as the developer and operator of the world’s largest LNG port facility, to giving utmost priority to safety, security, and efficiency. I am confident that this, and future milestones, will further cement Ras Laffan Port’s leading position as the premier port facility for cleaner energy.”

The milestone 5,000th LNG cargo was loaded from Ras Laffan Port in June 2011, nearly 15 years after the first loading in 1996, while the 10,000th milestone was achieved in just about five years’ time.

With six operational LNG berths, the port is the world’s premier LNG exporting facility and the only gateway for Qatar’s LNG. Ras Laffan Port provides an essential strategic link in the chain connecting gas production derived from the North Field with the end users of gas, liquid and associated products across the world.
