Flow of Qatari non-oil commodities into global markets discussed

HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani met yesterday at the ministry’s headquarters with representatives of the private sector and different government departments.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with ways to facilitate the flow of Qatari non-oil commodities into global markets.
A press statement issued by the ministry said the meeting was held in the presence of Qatari Businessmen Association chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani as well as representatives of government departments concerned, along with the participation of CEOs of Muntajat, Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company and a number of Qatari exporting companies.
According to the statement, the meeting fell within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to promote co-ordination between the economic and trade sectors and government departments concerned in order to strengthen the co-operation between them in the light of economic trends and policies pursued by the State.
HE the Minister stressed the importance of the meeting, which aimed to develop and promote ways of taking advantage of the international economic and trade agreements signed by Qatar, which would facilitate the flow of Qatari goods and products into global markets.
Discussions also touched on the main challenges and difficulties faced by Qatari producers at the local and international levels, and the importance of finding foreign markets for Qatari non-oil products, in addition to creating new products and services adapted to the needs of foreign markets, diversifying the Qatari export basket and increasing the number of countries importing Qatari goods.
The meeting also referred to indicators of non-oil exports growth, which rose during 2015 to make up 17% of the total exports, compared to 13.4% in 2014.
