These facilities are the Ambulatory Care Centre, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute and the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre. Ashghal has also completed examinations, inspections, and testing operation procedures for all of the technical and electromechanical systems.
“The handing over process was launched on April 30 and generally for such large projects, it takes about two months to complete,” said Abdulmohsin Hassan al-Rashid, head of Health Projects in the Buildings Project Management Department, Ashghal.
“The new hospitals stretch over a built-up area of 227,000sqm. The facilities will be able to serve about 4,000 patients a day including about 600 inpatients. There are 559 beds for the inpatients in addition to the ICU and other care units,” he explained.
“The hospitals are also equipped with elevators, MRI facility, robotic pharmacy and all the other general requirements. All these are provided by Ashghal while the furniture and other loose fittings are to be supplied by the operator.”
The official stated that the main construction contractor for the project was Hyundai and there were over 30 subcontractors. “A good percentage of the subcontractors were Qatari companies. There were other costs such as consultancy and designing in addition to QR 3.7bn cost of the project,” he said.
According to al-Rashid, the project was completed in the amended stipulated time. “The project was supposed to be completed in a particular period. However, several changes were suggested later. Facilities such as the operation rooms were added to the scope of the project which made us change the earlier date of completion. The whole project was completed in four years and two months.”
According to Ashghal, all the three hospitals were built according to highest specifications and international standards with regard to best construction materials, paint colours and all the requirements and standards. It would enhance the sustainability of the building and provide a comfortable indoor environment for patients, medical staff and visitors.
The project also includes the main kitchen of Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City’s hospitals with a daily capacity of 8,000 meals.
