El Jaish defeated Al Rayyan 3-1 (27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19) in the last game of the best-of-three semi-final playoff yesterday at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena to enter the final of the Emir Cup volleyball for the first time.
Jaish will meet defending champions Al Arabi, who had defeated Police 2-0 in the first semi-final, in the final tomorrow.
Jaish looked more organised and fluent during their victory as Cuban middle player Robertlandy Simon scored match-high 29 points, while his compatriot Oreol Camejo scored 17 for the winners.
For Rayyan, Welfredo Venero scored 25, Tine Urnaut scored 18 and Mubarak Dahi Waleed chipped in with 12 points.
The 11-time champions Al Rayyan won the first match of the series but El Jaish bounced back to win the second one to tie the series at one-all. In yesterday’s decider, El Jaish defeated Al Rayyan to avenge their loss to the Lions in the final of the Qatar Cup.
