The Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Institute held a seminar on French-Qatari ties in which French ambassador Eric Chevallier spoke in the presence of diplomats and ministry staff.
The ambassador praised bilateral relations as strategic, old, deep-rooted, comprehensive and strong, noting that relations between HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and French President Francois Hollande are strong and deep as were relations between HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and former French presidents, which, he said, cements relationships at all levels and ensures their prosperity.
Speaking about regional issues, Chevallier said the strategic relationship between France and Qatar reflect close visions, adding that the two countries share the same views about the Syrian, Libyan and Palestinian issues.
On Syria, he said France and Qatar believe in a transitional period and agree that Bashar al-Assad is not accepted in a future Syria. He added that the Syrian people’s suffering must end and the Security Council’s decision must be fully implemented, condemning the bombing that the Syrian people are being subjected to.
“We believe humanitarian aid must reach everyone in Syria,” the French ambassador said.
Regarding Libya, Chevallier said a positive dynamism based on the work of UN-backed government is needed.
