PEF beats QVL in cricket friendly

In an entertaining and thrilling community cricket friendly, members of the Pakistan Engineers Forum (PEF) defeated the veterans from Qatar Veteran League (QVL) recently.
Cheered and supported by dozens of cricket enthusiasts and fans, the two teams faced off in a T20 Flood Light Cricket Match at Masaieed Sports Complex Cricket Ground. PEF clinched the victory by 20 runs after the QVL were bowled out in the 17th over, chasing 107 for victory.
Batting first, PEF scored 107 in their 20 overs, but the target proved too stiff for the QVL who could only manage 87 runs in 17 overs. The night belonged to the PEF team as it grabbed almost all the possible best-performance accolades.
The PEF team won the best bowler, best batsman and man of the match awards. Mahmood Ali Khan was declared the man of the match, Mohammad Jawad the best batsman and Rauf Shahzad was declared the best bowler.
The awards were handed to the winners by Rashid Nizam, the Community Welfare Attache at Pakistan Embassy, who was the chief guest. He also handed the winners’ trophy to the captain of PEF side, Mahmood Ali Khan and the runners-up trophy to QVL Captain Krishan Kumar.
M I Farid, QVL president, presented a memento to the chief guest, while Tahir Jamil, the PEF president, presented him a certificate of appreciation for his presence at the match. Jamil also handed appreciation certificates to M I Farid and Qazi Saleem of QVL for their support in organising the event together with PEF.
“It was a nice game and played in a good sprit. It was a very successful event which encouraged us to organise similar events in future that will further develop solidarity and friendship between Qatar and Pakistan,” said Jamil.
Salim Qazi, a senior member of QVL, said that QVL is an approved organisation in Qatar and works under the supervision of Qatar Cricket Association with more than 400 playing members.
Pakistan Cricket Academy President Haroon Rasheed provided commentary for the match, while FA Peracha and Naidu were the experts. PEF member Azeemuddin was given the responsibility to update the scoreboard and Muhammed Naveed was the scorer.
The two umpires were Neeraj and Thissaeru.
Both QVL and PEF thanked Rashid Nizam for accepting the invitation and watching the match with the Masaieed community.
They also thanked the management of QP (Mesaieed Sport Complex) and ground in-charge M Dilanka for providing “a beautiful and lush green ground and extending their maximum support and facilities.”
Jamil thanked the two team captains and players, Haroon Qureshi for his commentary and Dr Tariq Kureshi for selecting the best players of the evening.
Pakistan Engineers Forum (PEF) is a non-profit organisation established in 1997 under the patronage of Ambassador of Pakistan to Qatar. PEF represents over 300 engineers of Pakistani origin working in the country.
PEF was founded in 1997. The primary objective of the forum is to disseminate technical information by inviting guest speakers or through in-house presentations, develop programmes to deliver efficient and effective services and knowledge to members.
It also aims to facilitate learning through interaction with professionals from other disciplines, build communication and leadership skills, provide a platform for Pakistani engineers for social and technical exchange in Qatar and elsewhere, promote social and cultural activities, improve the image of the Pakistani community in Qatar, and provide a liaison between the members and the Pakistani embassy in Doha.
There are now more than 300 Pakistani engineers who are members of the forum. It represents the largest group of Pakistani professionals working in Qatar.
