The Labour Inspection Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs has launched a major inspection campaign at worksites in the country, according to local Arabic daily Al Sharq. The campaign is aimed at ensuring that companies are complying with the labour law and its various regulations, according to the daily. The department conducts more than 450 inspection tours in a month. Strict penalties are imposed on erring firms for violations pertaining to issues such as salaries and wages, overtime payment, retaining passports of workers and health & safety regulations. Other issues include hiring workers without proper licences and documentation.
