The 4th International Whale Shark Conference (IWSC) designed to generate international collaboration in conservation and research will kick off in Doha on Monday.
Qatar’s Ministry of Environment, and its partners Maersk Oil Qatar and the Qatar Whale Shark Research Project, are hosting and facilitating the IWSC.
The congress, which is held under the patronage of HE Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi the Minister of Municipal Affairs and the Environment aimed at promoting international co-operation in the field of preservation of the whale shark, brings together about 100 participants, including 75 scientists from 28 countries in the world.
The conference includes a number of workshops during which participants will submit summaries and presentations designed to share knowledge and explore measures that contribute to the protection of whale sharks for future generations.
The emphasis of the conference will be on providing a forum for sharing international experience and expertise; setting research and conservation priorities; to promote international collaboration and summarising the status of knowledge on whale sharks.
