Qatar University’s (QU) Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering (CSE-CENG) honoured students Hamad Mohsen Andilah and Abdulrahman Meshan al-Marri, and supervisor Mohammed Khair al-Issa from Mohamed Bin Abdulwahab Independent Secondary School for Boys for winning the first-place in the Annual Computing Contest.
At second place were Mohamed Salem al-Qahtani and Ali Shehab al-Diri also from the same school and also supervised by al-Issa, while third place went to Abdulaziz Ahmed al-Sulaiti and Khalifa Mubarak al-Sulaiti from Nasser Al Attiya Independent Secondary School for Boys supervised by Essam al-Khatib.
The contest sponsored by Qapco drew 48 teams of 96 students from 19 schools. It required students to programme a robot that will perform tasks within a limited time. Leading up to the final day, the students attended workshops, and met with QU faculty members who visited the schools and provided guidance on competition rules and guidelines.
CENG dean Dr Khalifa bin Nasser al-Khalifa honoured the winners and thanked Qapco for supporting CENG’s efforts in its initiatives to educate Qataris nationals and deliver the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics experience to the younger generation towards achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
He stressed the importance of strengthening relations with secondary schools to promote awareness of CENG programmes, and help develop their computing skills in general and robot programming in particular.
