I idolise Yuvraj Singh, says Krunal Pandya

On a high after a match-winning performance against Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians’ promising all-rounder Krunal Pandya yesterday said he idolises veteran India batsman Yuvraj Singh.
Krunal said he used to watch the batting style of Yuvraj. On Sunday, Krunal smashed 86 off just 37 balls and also picked up two crucial wickets to help defending champions Mumbai keep Indian Premier League (IPL) play-off hopes alive.
“I used to watch Yuvraj Singh and I am big fan of Yuvraj Singh, so I like him and I idolise him,” Krunal told reporters on the sidelines of the Kingfisher Bowl Out event.
Mumbai, who are currently in third spot in the points table with 14 points, need to win their last league game against Gujarat Lions on May 21 to make it to the last four stage.
Speaking on the team’s chances, the all-rounder said, “We have one thing on mind, about winning the next game, we are not thinking about the result, we are focusing on the process, we will go there (to Kanpur) practice well two days, (if) we will execute the skills, then the result will be in our favour”.
“I am happy for my performance for the Mumbai Indians, batting, bowling wherever I have got opportunity, I have done well, I will like to continue with the same, we (the team) have one match remaining and will try to win and qualify for the play-offs,” the 25-year-old said.
The left-handed batsman also thanked the Mumbai team’s think-tank for constant support and valuable advice.
“Secondly, we have many legends in the team, Ricky Ponting (head coach), Sachin sir (Sachin Tendulkar), Jonty Sir (Jhonty Rhodes), I have learned about batting from Robin Singh, he guides me about batting, it has been a good experience,” Krunal added.
Mumbai’s star opener and New Zealand veteran batsman Martin Guptill said he is confident that the team will give their best to win the last match against Gujarat and make it to the play-offs.
“It is hard to say what it exactly is. T20 cricket is a format where you always need that momentum, and if you don’t get that straight away it is hard to pick up. What has happened it is only ourselves to be blamed. But we have one more game left and we will aim to give out best and qualify for the play-offs,” Guptill said.
