The department of chemical engineering at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) held its second annual student research day “My Gateway to Research” recently.
The event aimed to showcase ongoing research activities by undergraduate and graduate students, attracted over 100 students and faculty members. This year’s programme kicked off with a research cluster discussion panel with faculty members presenting the ongoing research and interests of each cluster.
CENG leadership at the event included dean Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa, associate dean for research and postgraduate studies Prof Abdelmagid Hammuda, associate dean for development and industrial relations Dr Saud Ghani, and department head Prof Ramazan Kahraman.
Also on the programme were oral presentations by graduate and post-doctoral research fellows covering topics ranging from basic science to chemical and environmental engineering.
In addition, a poster presentation and competition session of over 30 posters featured graduation projects, capstone design course outputs and design innovation in chemical engineering, individual research and UREP projects.
First-place winner was Reem Sameer Azzam with Terbium Oxide Based Solar Water Splitting Cycle for Thermochemical Hydrogen Production, supervised by Dr Rahul Bhosale. S Yousef, Dareen Dardor, Mariem Chamakh, and Baraa Anaya placed second with Synthesis and Optimisation of Gas to Liquid (GTL) Process, supervised by Dr Essa al-Musleh. Third-place winners were Moustafa H Ali with Erbium Oxide Based Solar Thermochemical Water Splitting Cycle, supervised by Dr Bhosale; and Mohammad Adams, Moustafa H Ali, Mohamed Ibrahim, and Mohamed Salem - Hydrofin Overview, supervised by Dr Fadwa ElJack.
Dr al-Khalifa said, “This motivates students to pursue advanced research in areas that benefit QU, Qatari industry and community, and to use this knowledge in their future careers”.
