Sheikh Faisal education research prizes awarded

Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (Alf) hosted a prize distribution ceremony yesterday to honour the winners of the Sheikh Faisal Prize for Education Research.
The annual awards pay tribute to academics and educators in the field of scientific research in the GCC region.
Alf founder HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Qatar University president Dr Hassan al-Derham, and Ministry of Education and Higher Education undersecretary Rabia Mohamed al-Kaabi were present.
Alf’s commitment lies in investing and promoting research and development in the educational field with the aim of producing a new generation of researchers and educators.
Simultaneously it fosters the establishment of best educational practices and policies.
Speaking at the event, HE Sheikh Faisal recalled that the awards were instituted to run parallel to the educational pillar set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
“Human capital and resources are vital in propelling Qatar forward as a progressive, knowledge-based country on par with international standards.
“It is our objective to encourage a new breed of tomorrow’s researchers and innovators in the educational field who in turn will enrich the human development of our country,” he said.
Alf executive director Ali Talal al-Mar’e said that the prizes ranged between QR10,000 and QR40,000, and included separate categories for teachers, academics, educational leaders, university students, and post-graduate students.
“The integration of education with business and industry is vital in advocating the cause of sustainable development across all sectors. Education is the single most powerful means to improve the quality of life and research widens the cause of an innovative knowledge-based economy in Qatar to meet the demands of today’s economies,’ he added.
