Ikea Group has opened in Dubai South, its first Distribution Centre in the Middle East.
The new unit boasts 100,000sq m of storage space, which is equivalent to almost 20 football pitches. The structure is composed of 120,000cu m of racking, plus eight levels of storage distributed across two modules of operations.
Dubai Aviation City Corporation executive chairman Khalifa al-Zaffin inaugurated the new facility.
“This facility represents one of the best in class examples of an efficient and effective distribution solution,” he said.
Ikea Distribution Centre Dubai managing director Abdeldaziz Kadri explained that the new unit, the first direct investment of Ikea Group in the Middle East, will enable the company to deliver fast-moving products more efficiently to stores across the GCC, lowering handling costs as well as shipment times.
There are seven Ikea stores in the GCC region: two in the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), one in Doha (Qatar), three in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran) and one in Kuwait City.
