HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani hosted a luncheon banquet, at the Emiri Diwan yesterday, honouring the football team and the technical and administrative organs of Lekhwiya Sports Club, the Champions of HH the Emir’s Football Cup, and Al Sadd Sport Club, the Runner-Up, in addition to representatives of the tournament sponsors and a number of sports and media personalities.
Lekwiya produced a great fightback in the final, to come from two goals down and then trump Sadd in the penalty shootout.
This was the first-ever Emir Cup triumph for the Red Knights.
HH the Special Representative of HH the Emir, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani attended the function.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and HE Sheikh Joan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of Qatar Olympic Committee, also attended the luncheon banquet.
