Qatar and Saudi Arabia have decided to increase the number of flights between the two countries. An agreement to this effect was reached during the 3rd Middle East Aviation Safety Summit on Thursday, the Qatar News Agency reported.
The number of flights between Doha and destinations in Saudi Arabia such as Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam will go up.
With the launch of flights to new destinations such as Medina and Taif, the number of weekly flights between the two countries would reach 91.
The agreement signed on Thursday will help Qatar Airways operate 14 weekly flights to such airports as Tabuk, Gizan, Abha, Yanbu, Al Ahsa, Ela and Hail, in addition to increasing the number of cargo flights up to 14 a week to major airports in Saudi Arabia.
Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) chairman Abdulla bin Nasser Turki al-Subaei and Saudi Arabia's Civil Aviation Authority for Safety and Air Transport deputy director general Abdulhakim al-Badr were the signatories.
The two civil aviation authorities are scheduled to hold another meeting before the end of the year to update the existing air transport agreement and add new items to facilitate operational matters of national carriers in the two countries.
