The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has conducted surprise inspections at a number of shops selling vegetables, fruits and fish in different parts of Qatar.

Nine cases of violations, including unclear display of price tags and non-compliance with the rates for vegetables and fruits were registered.
The inspection campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Economy are part of its commitment to monitor markets and commercial activities in Qatar in order to protect the rights of consumers and ensure suppliers' compliance with their obligations stipulated by Law No 8 of 2008 on consumer protection.
Penalty for violating Law No 8 of 2008 on consumer protection ranges from administrative closure and fines between QR3,000 and QR1mn.
The ministry pledged to step up inspection campaigns and to take appropriate action to implement the law and protect the rights of consumers.
It urged all consumers to report any abuses or irregularities.
The ministry receives complaints and suggestions through its communication channels.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce will discuss the topic of 'trademark' during today's episode of the weekly programme 'Feed wa Istafeed' produced by Al Rayyan Channel in co-operation with the ministry.
The episode will discuss the difference between the trade mark and brand name, and the importance of registering the product by choosing the appropriate trademark, and the mechanisms of registration of a trademark.
It will also highlight the role of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in protecting the trademark.
The programme aims to spread public awareness about the services provided by the Ministry of Economy by highlighting important programmes, initiatives and services offered by the ministry in the areas of economic and trade affairs and consumer protection.
